dodge charger 2015

The 2015 Dodge Charger surprised many when it showed off its dramatic revisions at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. The muscle car looked completely different, and that's because practically every panel above the floor is new. The Charger is almost unrecognizable with so much work done, and below, we take a look at what makes the muscle car look so different from its predecessor.

If the Charger's face looks familiar, that's because it bears a striking resemblance to that of the Dodge Dart. Although the front grille is straight from the Dart, it keeps the same overall shape and the same mesh design as found on the outgoing car. The blacked-out front grille extends into slimmer Dart-like headlights that feature available LED surrounds. Although the old Charger featured strong character lines on the hood, the new one has twin-bulge contours that make the hood look even more aggressive. Available LED light strips replace the circular lights on the lower front fascia.

Looking at its profile, the Charger now wears marker lamps that have been integrated into the edges of the front wheel wells, and the dramatic character line on the front door has been softened a bit. From this angle, you can see that the nose doesn't look so squared off anymore, and the same goes for the rear end.

Around back, the Charger still keeps its "racetrack" taillights, except it appears much smoother and more futuristic since it features new taillight lensing technology with only 72 LEDs compared to the previous model's 164 LEDs. Although the Charger still has the upright truncated rear end, the sharp edges have been toned down, giving the rear more of an egg-like appearance like the Dart. The dual-exhaust tips are also shaped differently with a rectangular appearance.

Changes continue inside, where the Charger gets new colors and materials. Satin chrome replaces chrome nearly everywhere, and real aluminum trim adorns the dash and console. The electronic shifter has been replaced with a new one in addition to the Dart-like steering wheel. Although nothing is entirely different about the Charger's interior, the nicer materials definitely give it a touch of class.

What do you think of the 2015 Dodge Charger? Do you think it looks like an overgrown Dart now, or do you think the aging Charger needed a new look as dramatic as this? Let us know in the comments below. Last week's installment of Refreshing or Revolting focused on the 2015 Hyundai Sonata, and it appeared as if readers either loved it or hated it. FordFiveHundredFan was one reader who liked it, saying, "Very refreshing. The Sonata has grown more mature, refined, and elegant. Good job Hyundai. You're growing up." Sidewind had the same thoughts about the midsize sedan: "Refreshing, because it looks in line with the new Genesis, which has a more aggressive and premium stance. The former model looked too soft and bulbous." Those that didn't like it included corinthianz2006, who said, "Revolting. The current model looks better. They made the new one look boring by copying design cues from too many other cars already on the road." The NABG also agreed, saying, "Revolting, because it looks as if Hyundai took a step backward in design. It looks a generation older than the current car."
